Quilting has come naturally to me as my parents were both handcrafters in their own right. Dad was a master upholsterer, owning his business, Hayward Upholstery, for close to 50 years. Mom was a professionally trained tailor, who alongside my paternal grandmother, operated Hazel’s Fashion Fabrics in downtown Tama, Iowa. They both were accomplished seamstresses. Mom was an avid quilter, piecing and hand quilting several quilts a year.
Before taking the leap to focus on quilting full-time, I was a Certified Sign Language Interpreter for 30 years, as well as a football and wrestling cheer coach. I still enjoy coaching and am already enjoying working with another fantastic group of cheerleaders for the upcoming school year.
In addition to TCQC, I have recently expanded my business to include Tama County Market, which is a seasonal home decor shop that includes found, picked, and repurposed items. We will be hosting our first event in the fall of 2022.
My husband and four children are my biggest supporters (and the kids do a lot of the heavy lifting when they are home from college!) as I follow my dream of owning my own small business. We live on a small acreage in rural Iowa.
